A Couple More for the Santa Fe Steam Fans
Author: drumwrencher

Two more for our Santa Fe friends. I recently found these in dad's photographs.

My father, Fred Boland, a machinist at Bayshore had taken a trip on his SP pass in September, 1929 to LA to photograph as much railroading as he could. A month later, the Great Depression hit with a vengence. But even that didn't stop him from rail fanning...

Captioned as follows:

1: "Santa Fe freight yards near station, Los Angeles 9/29"

2: "Santa Fe station, Los Angeles 9/29"

And, thanks to my frend Evan Werkema, here's the Santa Fe thread posted several weeks ago from the same trip:

Any additional info would be most apreciated.

Hope you enjoy this long look back. (And thanks, Evan!)

La Grande station before it lost its dome following the 1933 Long Beach earthquake.

Always wondered if D&RGW had a corresponding "La Fe" station somewhere...;^)

Thanks, Evan. I think dad never figured anyone was that interested in his rail pics, so sometimes he left simple, yet important details out. Like excursion names, station names, etc...

Could the yard in the first photo here be the top of First Street Yard?
Long before the Concreting of the Los Angeles River?

I wish I had an answer for you, my friend, but, unfortunately, I've never been there. Never even saw these photos till about 3 days ago. I hope one of our LA masters can chime in with an answer for you!
