SP Mountains were great looking engines and I'm told they were well liked by the engine crews.

Beautiful machine but only really foggy memories for me if even I ever saw them as a kid.

Did these have very much in common with the UP 4-8-2's, or were the UP and SP mechanical departments going their separate ways by the time these were built?

Beautiful locos, especially the ones with the semi-cylindrical Vandy tenders...

Train 27 was the SF Ltd 1929 to 1931-- combined with
the Overland Ltd May 1931.

timz, I realize the train numbers of the Overland were not always 27/28.  If 27/28 was once the "San Francisco Limited", I trust you have a reference source, as I have never heard of such a train name on the SP.  Also, if your info is correct, then the Overland had to have  different train numbers at that time, could you supply those train numbers, along with your source?  That would be appreciated, AA

If you don't have timetables, look in the back of CP&SP.
The Overland was trains 1 and 2 until 1931 when it combined
with 27/28 the SF Ltd that had started June? 1929 on
the Overland's pre-1929 schedule.
