With A Fresh Load Of Coal, But Still Time To Pose For Pictures!
Author: LoggerHogger

No matter how busy an engine crew was during the days of steam, when they spotted a photographer aiming his camera towards their direction, most every time they would find time to stop what they were doing to pose for the photo.  Such was the case here.

The engine crew of Pacific Coast Ry #14 had just filled the tender of the 1907 product of the Rhode Island Locomotive Works 2-8-0 on May 17, 1936 in downtown Seattle, Washington when the engineer spotted Al Farrow and his trusty 616 camera pointed his direction.  Suddenly the morning chores for the engine crew came to a halt just long enough for Al to get this great photo.  The engineer knew the film speeds of the day were slow and if he were to move he would be blurred.  He took no chance of that as he stood at attention to let Al get this fine shot.

Great pic.

Martin, I want to let you know that I joined TrainOrders because of you. I had been visiting TO for years and your images and stories associated with them were always fascinating. Only problem I had was that I could only see them as a thumbnail!  I joined up just to see the images in their full glory.

And to see the common tools of the trade as well.
Like most switchers and shortline power their power

That coal sure contains a lot of "fines".  Must have been a b**** to fire.
