Here are three photographs taken in Ottawa, IL while laying over during a Chicago/Ottawa/Chicago fan trip on June 10, 1962.

Photo 2 - filling the oil cups with compressor oil.  There are two - one for the first stage compressor, one for the second.

I may be a heretic here, but I personally believe the GC's restoration improved the appearance of this engine.

We have always used machine oil to lubricate the air side, and valve/steam oil to lubricate the steam side of cross-compound air compressors.

Additionally, I always preferred the appearance of the Burlington O1a locomotives with the Elesco Feedwater System.

True, but it was hard to mistake a Burlington engine with that hardware.

John/Larry, I agree with you that GC improved the looks of 4960.  Maybe it's my NY Central background.
