765 tender?
Author: DJ-12

I apologize if this has been asked before, but what is up with the extensions on the 765s tender that I'm seeing in shots recently? Thanks.

Ok thanks. Missed that, it wasn't obviously titled (and actually was discussed 7/20)

I know it helps and adds more coal but it looks like a German tender now

Lets all remember that it IS removable, i.e. it is bolted in place, plus the NS management likes it since it stretches coal mileage drastically, which means NO DIESEL!

How many tons of coal per mile does a Berk burn through?

From the FWHS Twitter feed, they linked to an article in the Ashtabula Wave about this weekend's excursions:

"The 100 mile round trip will require about 10 tons of coal to fuel 765. Melvin says its capacity is 26 tons, so it won't need to refuel in Ashtabula."

Goes on to state that the locomotive evaporates 120 gallons of water for every mile it travels.
