Wait, it's all black.  And there are two engines.
I'm trying to remember when the two of them went to Sacto and I worked my way back from SLC to Cheyenne.  It was a trip for an anniversary of the museum out there.
I don't think I've ever seen a picture of that trip EB from SLC to Cheyenne..

Don,

The UP doubleheaded the two locomotives to Sacramento three different times for the California State Railroad Museum.

1) For the grand opening, in 1981, and 3985 was still a coal burner.

2) For the tenth anniversary, in 1991

3) For the 150 anniversary of the gold rush, in 1999

Was 1999 the year of the flue problems?

In 1991 844 was in Greyhound colors at the Railfair.  I'll guess this was in 1999, and yes, Don, that was when the flue problem occurred.  Very nice photo, Haruo, and if anyone can tell us when it was taken, it is you, my friend.

It was in 1999, at Lovelock, Nevada.  They were on their way to Sacramento.  This was taken on the
same day.

That was a day that I will never forget. I was sitting in the engineers seat at Railfair when the tube failure occurred. Two other people were in the cab at the time Lynn Nystrom and Tom Bispo both of which are no longer with us. Both RIP. My father, Tom's father and Steve Lee were in the cab of the Sierra 28 parked next to the 844. Lynn and Tom went out the fireman's side and I went out the engineer's side. I thought I had hit every step on the way down but apparently I hit the first one then slid down the grab irons.
