I was on that trip!  Spent the night in Williamson, WV.  The next day was Williamson to Roanoke via Mullins/Elmore and the former Virginian Railway with Southern Railway 4501 and Norfolk & Western 1776, the SD-45 in Bi-Centennial paint, now at the Virginia Museum of Transportation.
