Here is another Emil Albrecht 16 by 20 print, also from Dean Gray's collection.

UP 535 at Laramie. No date.

UP 525-539 were converted from compound to simple, and received Walschaert valve gear. The second photo is a detail showing the unique bend in the mechanism needed for this installation.

Most likely he's up there to pass signals to the engineer
from the foreman and/or field man at the other end of the
cut.

Yes sir.

Quite often the 535 was the power on the Coalmont local and that may be them coming back into town and making moves in Laramie yard.

I asked the person who now owns the negative. The photo was taken at Laramie on August 23, 1955.

No comment about the apparently unique valve gear arrangement?

Pretty standard walscharts by the look of it. Basically the same set up as 529 at Nwrm.

Here is UP 535 today (actually June 2012). Nicely displayed as part of the Snow Train, just south of the Laramie depot.
