ATSF 2926 Update - April 16, 2016
Author: Cumbresfan

From the CMO: "The locomotive is in the last stages of the major portions of the restoration!" As with previous work status updates, work is focusing on reinstalling parts and checking out restored systems such as the maze of lubrication piping. Tightening of the flexible staybolt caps continues along with insulation and painting of piping. Drive wheel brake shoe holders are undergoing fitting using the new more powerful "Transmogrifier." One area still being addressed is the air brake system and the 26L brake stand. Getting it and associated piping installed involves finding space under the cab to locate equipment for operation. Construction on the new engine shed will begin with the footings before the end of the month with the steel erection complete by the second or third week of May.

Photos show the typical small tasks required as the restoration nears completion. That's not to say they're easy to perform given the cramped space available for access. But they're getting it done (helps to have some limber young folks around, too!)

The 2016 first quarter newsletter is up on the website. It contains news as we begin the transition from restoration to operation. Also you can get a preview of the final engine house design and it's location; clearance front and back and on the sides is tight: only about 4.5 feet. As the newsletter was emailed to Society members earlier this week, I was going to tease the non-members by saying if you joined you could be the first to read it as it usually appears on the newsletter page a week or ten days after the members receive it. But the webmaster was fast on the draw and it can be found here:

The Engine House GoFundMe page has been closed, but, as always, donations are appreciated by check or PayPal.
