Steam & Excursion > Gramps outsideDate: 05/24/16 06:03 Gramps outside Author: drgw0579 On the Cumbres and Toltec, at Antonito.
I believe this is the first time UTLX 11037 has been outside since lettering. Ther's still work to be done, but I think it will be on photo charters soon! The second car was never a "Gramps" car, so it won't be lettered the same way. Bill Kepner Date: 05/24/16 07:33 Re: Gramps outside Author: LarryB Dumb question, but is there a story behind "Gramps"? What does it mean?

Date: 05/24/16 17:05 Re: Gramps outside Author: lowwater I may be late to the party, but this link is an incredible summary of the C&TS from the beginning of the D&RG San Juan Extension to (almost) the present. I've only skimmed it so I don't know how accurate it is regarding those parts I know something about, let alone overall, and it of course suffers from typical governmentese style and language, but it's pretty much all there -- history, lists, photos, maps. Thanks much for posting the link, TL!!!

I assume it is welded to ther bottom of the tank! Is that assumption correct?

Is that assumption correct? Riveted. "Frameless" style tank car. These two cars had been used as fuel storage tanks in the valley. All the external hardware had been scrapped. They were donated and several years ago, a restoration program started. Later this year, (or next) expect to see them used on charters. Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 05/25/16 06:09 by drgw0579. |
