ATSF 2926 Update - May 21, 2016
Author: Cumbresfan

Big news for the week was steel framing for the engine house went up and awaited siding installation. Mounting of the air brake system components continued together with checking of leaks in air compressor piping. All of the flexible staybolt sleeves which leaked during our last compressed air test of the boiler have now been repaired. New sleeves were welded on where the originals could no longer hold pressure. A test bench is being fabricated for hydrotesting of the superheater pipes after which they will be installed. Details of other projects can be found here:

Photos focus on engine house fabrication, welding of new flexible staybolt sleeves to replace leaking ones, and a different project - metallurgical testing of various metal locations and fittings. Videos include a two-minute composite of engine house construction, welding of flexible staybolt sleeves, and testing of air compressor piping.

Our engine house ribbon cutting will be Saturday, June 11. Below is the announcement from our society secretary:

To all our members,

We will be having a Grand Opening and ribbon cutting for our Engine House/Garage on June 11th at 10 am.  (Normal hours of operation begin at 7:30 for the summer, so you shouldn't be late.  If you're late you will miss the show.  We're having a BBQ lunch that day and we need to know if you would like to come and how many so we can plan for the food.  If you've already signed up, no need to let me know.  I know a lot of you contributed to the cause and we appreciate your donations.  This is a small way of letting you know just how much we do appreciate your willingness to help.

There will be some dignitaries on hand as well.

Please RSVP to this email if you plan to make it.  I know a lot of you are from far away, but wanted to give you the chance to make that decision.

If in the area, Trainorders members are also welcome. Gail asks that you email her if you plan to attend:  kirby1953@msn.com

As always, we appreciate your help through joining as a member, sponsoring parts, or a general donation:

The photo of the kitty snoozing on the brake system pipes could be titled, "When you gotta nap, you gotta nap."

Having retired Sandia Labs and private tech folks working on '26 is an absolute super bonus, along with our world-famous squad of snoopervising watchcats. ;^)
