a good look at that Tier 4 locomotive. Glad you got to go into the 3751's cab and take a photo. Looks from what all the gauges were showung that she was displayed cold. If I am correct about that, why was she dislayed cold? TIA! Date: 07/19/16 09:59 Re: LA, 3751, Metrolink, Pokeman Author: HotWater Margaret_SP_fan Wrote:

Margaret, Since the main boiler pressure gauge can not be viewed in that photo, and even thought the fire is out, she may not be "cold". All the gauges you see on the Engineer's side are air brake gauges, and thus show zero, it the air pumps have been turned off. THANK you VERY much!! Silly me!! I shoulda seen that the main pressure gauge was not in that photo. DUUUUUH!! Silly, silly me. Again --THANK you!! Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 07/19/16 11:11 by Margaret_SP_fan. Date: 07/19/16 11:54 Re: LA, 3751, Metrolink, Pokeman Author: jdc3751 Margaret,
The fire is often put out when the locomotive is on display. The engine is fired up in the morning, pressure built and then shut down for safety during the display when lots of guests come in and out of the cab. The locomotive is then fired back up following the event and is moved under her own power back to the "barn". Hotwater is correct, the pumps were simply off when this photo was taken because the engine wasn't building any steam at that time, but she was definitely hot. The folks who maintain her have to be proud of her performance, and I'm sure they wish she could get out more often and for longer runs. Good on you folks at SBRHS.

I know that it is much safer if she is shut down. She IS impressive, even cold -- but just MORE impressive when under steam and her pumps are working -- which makes her sound as though she is alive. SO glad you guys got to be part of the event yesterday. nycman wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > It's good to see this handsome locomotive out > again, even for a short run. I'm just making this observation since TC a few posts down was advised to wear all railroad PPE when taking pictures of trains. So I was asking if the person who took these pictures was wearing their railroad PPE.
