Steam & Excursion > 2016 mainline steam listDate: 07/24/16 11:24 2016 mainline steam list Author: Spikes Correct me; mainline steam locomotives operated in 2016 so far: 261, 765, 844, 611, 1225, and 3751. Cool.
Date: 07/24/16 11:33 Re: 2016 mainline steam list Author: HotWater Now, do you mean out operating on a class 1 "main line"? Or,,,,just operating?
SP 4449 will be operational in September, but not on a class 1 "main line". Then there is the IRM Frisco 2-10-0 #1630, plus the #630 and #4501 down on the Tennessee Valley Railroad Museum. Where do keep coming up with this garbage? Date: 07/24/16 14:29 Re: 2016 mainline steam list Author: Tominde Add to the list 425. Fastest steam engine in America for 2015.

Whoever, they need to stop it.
Maybe its some foamer who is involved in a crusty bucket of bolts that was turned down by the BNSF. IF you have a proven engine, a valid plan with all the ducks in a row, submit a reasonable request, have a trusted crew, have insurance in place and don't make a bunch of "demands", chances are you may score. BNSF has been great in the past about this, so stop badmouthing them. Date: 07/24/16 15:10 Re: 2016 mainline steam list Author: mdogg 765 was approved to go on BNSF to Galesburg. Case closed.

And I don't think we're exactly the fastest steam engine in America either. But thanks! Chris Bost Leesport, PA Date: 07/24/16 18:09 Re: 2016 mainline steam list Author: Tominde Chris, Some of those other engines on the list did not run class 1s. 1225, 261. We discussed this previously on a thread, and I'm not aware of anybody in 2015 that pegged mile-a minute. Certainly 844 most likely did yesterday and 765 had a legendary run last month. But 2015 was a slow year for steam with most big steam capped at 40 mph by NS and big western steam did real get out or far from the gate in 2015.

------------------------------------------------------- > Chris, Some of those other engines on the list > did not run class 1s. 1225, 261. In 2016, the 261 ran on BNSF which certainly is a Class 1. Date: 07/24/16 19:24 Re: 2016 mainline steam list Author: typebangin I think Tom was talking about last year, but 261 also ran on BNSF in 2015, 2014, 2013. We saw 425 doing somewhere north of 40mph on the Lerro charter this winter. With the lack of western steam in 2015 and the 40mph NS speed limit, there wasn't much fast mainline running in 2015, so 425 could have been the fastest engine that year with a similar performance. That said, the regular 425 excursions don't run nearly that fast and 261 probably ran 50-60mph on BNSF in 2015 (and #611 ran around 60mph on parts of the test run from Spencer to Greensboro in May last year).
And of course if we're talking 2016, 765 ran 70+ this June, 844 probably ran around 60+ this weekend, and 261 probably ran 50-60mph on the trip to Duluth in June. For mainline steam this year, I wouldn't include 1225 as she hasn't run on an actual mainline since what 1993? And a couple of light engine moves for display at LAUS (and Fullterton w/ a diesel) would disqualify 3751 in my book. And AT&SF 3415 hasn't been on a mainline since probably the 1950's. The only locomotives to run actual mainline trips this year at mainline speeds would be 611, 261, 765, and 844. Any other locomotives mentioned and you're getting a bit elastic with your definition of mainline steam. -James RuleG Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Tominde Wrote: > -------------------------------------------------- > ----- > > Chris, Some of those other engines on the > list > > did not run class 1s. 1225, 261. > > In 2016, the 261 ran on BNSF which certainly is a > Class 1. |
