767 number must be bad luck.  Rail rolled on other side.  Crews had the tender detached and were unloading rerailers and wood blocks while we were there.   Nice turnout on a beautiful Sunday.

I have seen a number of blurbs about the re-numbering, but can someone point me in the direction of any information as to why they renumbered it?  TIA

Ok, I guess that is a sign I need to go to bed.    :)  Thanks for pointing out the obvious link that tells the whole story - one I did not know.

That or the broken gauge rod that contributed to the derailment. Since 2006, the engine has walked off the rail about five or six times but it was only 765 then ;)

Record crowds got an intimate view of the re-railing process -- it was a good opportunity to engage and answer questions only feet away while the crews got to work.

SOOO, OK, what 'rail power' do they use to get her back onto good rail?
Why separate the engine & tender?
Are they using the Big Berk to re-rail itself?

I've re-railed many locos, so I'd be interested in how they get this done.

The hardest to read-rail were Big Alcos ( dismals) witth so-called 'tri-mount' trucks.
The center pivot, was NOT in the 'center' of the truck.....Thus, the whole weight, of the end that was derailed, had to be shifted.
To get that done, re-railers and blocking were NOT up to the task.   Derricks, or other lifting was the only way.

They better get ALL that rotten track fixed, soon.
440,000 pounds is too much for anything but the strongest R-O-W.
IMHO...

Our Davenport and then later the Plymouth and Davenport both provided power. The 765 could also make some minor adjustments herself.

The rail was rolled on the engineer's side, so we separated the engine and tender to come back for the tender later. No sense dragging it through.

We'll finish up later this week.
