Steam & Excursion > Sunday with the Nickel Plate Road 765, er 767Date: 09/19/16 04:00 Sunday with the Nickel Plate Road 765, er 767 Author: SDP40F600 Nickel Plate Road No. 765 is pulling two weekends worth of excursions on the Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad in Northeast Ohio. Saturday trips are leaving Rockside Road station in suburban Cleveland while the Sunday trips depart from Akron. There are two trips per day and the passengers are treated to a pair of photo runbys at Boston Mill station.
I spent all day Sunday chasing the 2-8-4 Berkshire-type locomotive, getting it in some of my favorite locations where I've captured the NKP 765 in the past. The locomotive is actually the 765, but for the remainder of 2016 is wearing 767 in honor of a locomotive of that number that participated in a ceremony in the 1950s to mark completion of the elevation of the NKP tracks through downtown Fort Wayne, Indiana. The 765 also wore 767 for about a decade when it was on display in a Fort Wayne park. Photo 1: This image almost didn't happen. After the photo runbys at Boston Mill for the second trip of the day, the train went north to the Fitzwater maintenance base for the CVSR. I had thought about going atop the Ohio Route 82 bridge to get the southbound run, but elected instead for this side view of the NKP 767 crossing Chippewa Creek in Brecksville. The route 82 shot will have to wait for next weekend. Photo 2: My favorite image of the day was this reflection shot at Indigo Lake for the afternoon return run to Akron. Photo 3: A meet with the regular CVSR Scenic train occurred five times in Peninsula. Edited 2 time(s). Last edit at 09/19/16 04:06 by SDP40F600. Photo 5: Cruising through Deep Lock Quarry, which is my favorite place to photogaph and watch a steam locomotive on the CVSR because they are working coming up a hill out of Peninsula. It's a good sound show. Photo 6: The crew during the second photo runby of the afternoon trip at Boston Mill. Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 09/19/16 04:07 by SDP40F600. The image was made at Indigo Lake station.
Photo 8: Also new this year is a Mars light. Photo 9: A bottle of soda, a steam locomotive and grandma next to you in an open window coach. It doesn't get much better than this for a youngster. Date: 09/19/16 04:40 Re: Sunday with the Nickel Plate Road 765, er 767 Author: atsf121 Love 1 & 2
Posted from iPhone Date: 09/19/16 06:37 Re: Sunday with the Nickel Plate Road 765, er 767 Author: patd3985 I must have missed something. Is there a reason behind the changing of the engine number from 765 to 767?...

Got your back, Kelly, I know you guys are even busier than normal! Date: 09/20/16 15:10 Re: Sunday with the Nickel Plate Road 765, er 767 Author: ns1000 Nice pics!!

Ha - thank you. The "Nathan" name is actually a very common thing strangely, so I don't mind and leave it be. A Nathan six-chime whistle is the voice of the 765, so I found it fitting from a PR perspective... KL FWRHS |
