Date: 09/26/16 18:31 Re: Any 3751 updates? Author: flyingfred Metrolink has another train outbound to Vincent at 9:25 PM so it cannot wait too long after 7:30 PM. I wonder if Metrolink will allow it to run at trsack speed through the San Fernando Valley? Track speed there, I believe, is 79 MPH. It will pass right by my house in Canyon Country.

A steam qualified engineer will be on board. Date: 09/26/16 21:07 Re: Any 3751 updates? Author: railstiesballast No wye at Vincent for over 50 years (but you can see the traces on Google Earth).
No wye from Mission Tower to Vincent and Lancaster. UP has a wye at Denis, and on rare, long time ago Metrolink turned a special (diesel) train there. (personal favors by local officials). Date: 09/26/16 21:30 Re: Any 3751 updates? Author: CPRR Trying to figure out a lighted area to wait to photograph it. Any ideas? Thought about one of the stations or maybe Newhall Ave crossing.

When I looked on Google Maps it looked like there is a wye between Palmdale and Lancaster near an airport. Date: 09/26/16 21:37 Re: Any 3751 updates? Author: CPRR Harlock Wrote:

Mike, running backwards to Los Angeles Posted from iPhone Date: 09/26/16 22:45 Re: Any 3751 updates? Author: Spikes Lets all PLEASE be cautious and safe near rail lines and crossings. Steam is not worth an injury, wreck, or worse! Noise can easily drown out oncoming, speeding trains. Do not cross tracks except at marked crossings. Look, listen, stay alive!
Date: 09/27/16 05:09 Re: Any 3751 updates? Author: TrackGuy In case some if you haven't read about it, a very ignorant foamer set up his tripod IN THE GAUGE ahead of NKP 767's SB run through the Cuyahoga Valley National Park Sunday...on 30 MPH. When 767 came around the curve and into view, the photographer DID NOT MOVE! The FWRHS engineer, Zach Hall, calmly brought the train to a halt, dismounted from the cab, removed his tripod from the gauge and read the guy the riot act. This could have been fatal, but fortunately, it wasn't this time.
Guys, if you see something stupid going on, speak up. I know it's all too easy to keep quiet for fear of incurring someone's wrath for interfering with their stupid ill-conceived plans, but if something like that were to happen out there along Metrolink, it could have disastrous, fatal and permanent effects. Somebody's wife, children, parents, etc, may be eternally greatful for your act of courage. I'll get off my soapbox now. Back to your regularly scheduled programming. TrackGuy Posted from Android Date: 09/27/16 09:31 Re: Any 3751 updates? Author: railstiesballast As to the wye on Google Earth: it is on the UP, not Metrolink.
As to stupid photography set-ups: 1. Too often these are news journalists and commercial photographers (think weddings) with no concept of RRs 2. If stupidity is demonstrated, even without injury, it could kill off 3751 trips to/from San Diego and San Bernardino, responsible companies and government agencies cannot place their shareholders or public monies at risk of liability lawsuits. This trip is a gift, enjoy it without destroying it. Date: 09/27/16 10:12 Re: Any 3751 updates? Author: tehachcond akpsteam Wrote:

There is no wye at either Pamdale or Denis on the UP unless one's been built in the last 10 years. When I worked as conductor on a SP local over that territory, there was a spur between Palmdale and Denis called the PID spur which may be the remnant of the west leg of a wye at one time. Not even sure the PID spur is there anymore. I started running in train service in 1966 over that district. No wye then either.. Brian Black Castle Rock, CO Date: 09/27/16 11:42 Re: Any 3751 updates? Author: webmaster There is remenants of the wye at the entrance to Palmdale Airport, but the switch has been removed and it is no longer in service. Kind of sad that rail service has ended for the airport. Manufacturing material goes by truck.
Here is a photo of the wye from two years ago. Todd Clark Canyon Country, CA Trainorders.com Date: 09/27/16 11:46 Re: Any 3751 updates? Author: Spikes Boiler is nearing full steam pressure by noon Tuesday, today, for the LA to Acton trip tonight. Return trip is Wednesday.

------------------------------------------------------- > Is 3751 leading, or will it be diesels? 3751 will lead the consist northbound "up" the grade to Acton tonight. Since there is no place to turn the locomotive, tomorrow the diesels will lead the train "down" the grade back to Los Angeles with 3751 bringing up the rear and operating in reverse. |
