4,000 mile round trip for the AFT Crew Reunion
Author: burlingtonjohn

Thanks to NYCMan, I post the following (sorry Fitz, I had dang near forgotten about it!) On September 12th, I loaded up the cruising vessel full of American Freedom Train goodies with the ultimate destination of Portland Oregon and the American Freedom Train Crew Reunion. I could have flown, but there was no way that I could have packed up my 9 foot long display of the train and all of the associated shovels, rakes & implements of destruction. Besides, since I am semi-retired, I enjoy the road trip and the sights along the way.  Attached for your consideration are a few photos from an epic road trip ...

Regards,
Burlington John

1. Cheyenne Depot on 12 Sep. I checked out the steam shops from the bridge and saw 4014's tender outside. I was tired from the road trip and all I could think about was food & beer. I thought about shooting the scene the next morning. I had hope to link up with Bob K, but I wasn't in town at a decent time. Maybe next trip?
2. Unfortunately, the weather on the morning of the 13th in Cheyenne was less than stellar. Decided to ditch the tender shot. This rotary was on the west end of the shops/depot.
3. I think these are former Rio Grande waycars, but I'm not sure.

1 & 2 - Portland Traction 101. This is the locomotive that placed 4449 on display at Oaks Park and pulled her out in 1974 for restoration for AFT service. Restored to original condition for the AFT crew reunion by Dick Samuels and his awesome crew on the OPR, it was just one more piece that made an amazing weekend even better.

Vastly "enjoyed the ride," John. Can't thank you enough. Your moniker gives me a clue--what, in your opinion, is the best looking diesel? d

Those brass items on 4449's pilot appear to be Marker light mounts.
