If Your Turntable Is Long Enough, You Can Turn Two At A Time!
Author: LoggerHogger

One of the advantages that occurred when mainline railroads expanded their engine turning facilities such that they could accommodate the large articulated power that came into vogue in the 1930's was the longer turntables installed to accommodate such huge power.

The shop crews now had turntables that were literally long enough to turn two sizable switch engines at once as we see here.  The date is August, 1953 and the location is Northern Pacific's Pasco engine servicing facility.  We see both NP #1174 and #1202 taking a spin on the turntable that had been expanded years earlier to handle the huge 4-6-6-4 articulated steam power that was used in the Pasco region.

Such facilities were impressive.

0-8-0+0-6-0? Funny, it doesn't look like a Garratt.

I've never seen that done before.  Thanks for posting.

Gives one some idea of the massive size of those 4-6-6-4s.  It would be cool to see one next to these two.

Is the 1174 dead?

That was my first thought, as it would be more likely.
