Steam & Excursion > Oregon Pacific & Eastern- Google Bikepath ViewDate: 12/01/16 21:27 Oregon Pacific & Eastern- Google Bikepath View Author: JDLX A month or two ago I inadvertently discovered that back in October 2015 two women took a Google Steetview camera- probably mounted on a bike trailer- the entire length of the Row River National Recreational Trail, built on the grade of the Oregon Pacific & Eastern, from the parking lots on what once was the yards in Cottage Grove (Oregon) to the trail end parking lot across the river from where the Culp Creek mill once sat. The blue lines on Google Maps or Google Earth indicating Street View coverage only appears in bits and pieces along the trail, but nearly the entire route is there save for a couple dozen feet in the trailhead parking lot next to Dorenia Reservoir where they switched riders. For anyone who never got to ride the OP&E, or if you want to reexperience it again, it is now there...
It also got me wondering how many other rails to trail upon which Streetview has been captured. So far the only one I've investigated is a few spot checks of the old SP&S Vernonia branch, it does not appear to have been done as of yet. The view is on the path which was once the dual track and you can see the remaining track next to the Google view.

They sure spend a lot of $ covering neighborhood streets every couple years, seems they'd want to do the trails, too. Ted in OR |
