Perhaps Someday Steam Trains Will Finally Return To This Town!
Author: LoggerHogger

It has been quite some time since the town of Pleasanton, California has experienced steam powered passenger trains within it's city limits.  That may change in the not so distant future, however.  The Niles Canyon Railway has been slowly adding track to the old right-of-way they operate on and they are nearing the edge of the town of Pleasanton.

Steam powered trains were once quite common in Pleasanton as we not in this 1941 photo of Western Pacific 4-8-2 #177 and her train passing through that town one summer day.

While WP #177 cannot return to Pleasanton, let's hope some of the Niles Canyon steam power can do just that in the years to come.

Nice photo.  I havn't seen much WP steam, so this is a treat, and flying white flags too.
