SP 4449 in the movies, part 2
Author: bodkin6071

Anybody have pictures of the #4449 when it made its second Hollywood appearance, in the 1990 movie "Come See the Paradise"? I remeber it looked totally different than what we are used to seeing, it was very filthy and was missing its side skirts.

HotWater, you remember this?

However, there's a video on Youtube of it in this state, during the filming of the movie in Portland in 1989. Would post the link, but it won't show up in the post correctly. In the search column just type "SP 4449 movie makeup", there it is...

I remember the filming, however I did not attend that brief outing. I seem to remember one or two photos published in either Railfan & Railroad Magazine or Trains Magazine.

Ok, I just figured i'd ask. Who was your stand-in during the times you weren't in the 4449's fireman's seat?

Pat Tracy or Dick Yager.

4449 had a steam costar in Come See the Paradise. Mt. Rainier Scenic #5 made the trip down from Mineral to its filming location around Newberg (I think?) under its own power. I've seen pictures of it at Portland Union Station but I'd love to see some pictures or video of that trip.

The filming was at Amity, Oregon - south of Newberg.

I went out to photograph the MRSR 5 crossing the trestle at Sherwood.

Unfortunately, as I was looking for the "perfect shot", the bank gave way along the creek and I fell into 3 foot deep water, camera and all - result, NO photo.

The MRSR 5 looked great crossing the trestle, but all I have is a memory.
