Steam & Excursion > 4501 - June 26, 1977Date: 04/23/17 11:20 4501 - June 26, 1977 Author: MaryMcPherson As we enter the "steam season," let's look back on days gone by. On June 26, 1977, Southern #4501 was making a run from St. Louis to Mount Vernon, Illinois. This is the Southern Railway's line from Louisville, Kentucky, to St. Louis, Missouri, and saw several visits by the steam program over the years. Steam trips all but vanished here during the Norfolk Southern years. These photos were scanned from the original 110 negatives and were shot by George Redmond of Centralia, Illinois.
#1 - West of Scott Air Force Base, east of Belleville. #2 - In the heat of the chase, pacing east of Posey. #3 - Approximately one mile east of Centralia. Mary McPherson Dongola, IL Diverging Clear Productions Date: 04/23/17 13:55 Re: 4501 - June 26, 1977 Author: Frisco1522 I'm surprised I didn't show up in this one too. Saw some really stupid driving on that two lane highway. 4 lanes abreast.
