I came across these last night. Any corrections would be much appreciated.
Picture 1 NW1218 in front of Roanoke Hotel the date on the mount says April 24, 1987
Picture 2 NW1218 in Glen Lyn. I remember it was a rainy day. April 25, 1987?
Picture 3 NW1218 on Christianburg Grade. It says April 26, 1987 but I am not sure.

Looks like LOTS of water showering out of the Worthington Feedwater Pump, in that 3rd photo.

Does that mean something is wrong with the feedwater pump?

Maybe not the pump itself, but certainly the water is showering out of somewhere.

These are from 1218's first public excursions, out of Roanoke. April 25 was a round trip to Bluefield. April 26 was a morning trip to Lynchburg and an afternoon trip to Walton.

This is VA 636 (Friendship Rd. today) between Shawsville & Montgomery.

I found another it says August 9, 1988 on a ferry move to Bluefield. I:s this right.

My understanding is that 1218 spent August 1988 in Ohio, but there was a June 9, 1988 trip from Roanoke to Bluefield, the first day of the Independence Limited.

Probably loose rod packing gland or just needs more
packing.

Thank you again John. I reexamined the film mount and it says 1987 not 88. I am adding what I found in the same search. The place looks like Montgomery Tunnel. The date says April 25, 1987, but is this right? I am going through some dusty boxes.
