Steam & Excursion > 844 Greyhound 30 years agoDate: 04/28/17 18:52 844 Greyhound 30 years ago Author: highgreengraphics I did not drive west to intercept 844 today, but in honor of the fine machine and those who keep it in service, here are some views of it in another time 30 or so years ago when it had an entirely different personality, being painted in the "Greyhound" Harriman scheme and carrying the extra "4". It has been so long ago I can not remember for sure what trips these were or where 8444 was coming or going to, so I will not hazard guesses that I do not know about for sure!
Photo 1 - An eastbound deadhead trip hurrying through Chappel, NE with a Rio Grande caboose behind a long line of empty piggyback flats, in August of 1987. Photo 2 - Being serviced in Sidney, NE as seen from the roof of a downtown store building, in August of 1987. Photo 3 - Still being serviced, being met by a fast eastbound led by two Missouri Pacific-lettered "Canary" GE C36-7's common on hotshots of the time. Coupla mooore... Photo 5 - On the same run, this was either a RMRRC or NRHS annual trip, 8444 is at the Sherman sign preparing to turn on the wye that was still there then from steam helper days. Hope to see more shots of 844 from the trip that just happened - Happy railfanning! === === = === JLH Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 04/28/17 19:13 by highgreengraphics. He said if you want to wash it, then we will paint it that again. It was a pain to keep clean but it did look good.

Steve's crew corrected the tilt after the locomotive was repainted black.
