Steam & Excursion > Curiuos - Status of the Daylight painted F40 /SP 4449Date: 06/24/17 13:19 Curiuos - Status of the Daylight painted F40 /SP 4449 Author: Mgoldman With SP #4449 running this weekend, I took note of the Amtrak "Genesis" unit
trailing (I call it "Genesis" cuz I can't distinguish between P42's). I was wondering - what ever happened to the group's F40 that was painted into the Daylight livery? Was it on loan? Was it ever intended to be used as the Amtrak power /HEP /protector in excursion service? /Mitch Date: 06/24/17 14:04 Re: Curious - Status of the Daylight painted F40 /SP 4449 Author: jst3751 Ex Amtrak F40PHR 231 is now owned by Dynamic Rail Preservation (DynaRail.org a 501(c)(3) corporation) and is currently stored in Ogden, Utah along with ex Amtrak SDP40F 644. The engine was vandalized in February 2013 when it was in remote storage (with other cars that were formerly in the Brooklyn Roundhouse but there was not room for them at new OHRF facility) in the Portland OR area. It is still currently in Daylight colors.

Does anyone know the story behind it? Why /how did it end up with the SP 4449 group? Why is it no longer with that group? What happened to what I recall were plans to run it with SP 4449 as opposed to Amtrak's silver P42's? The person driving that was Chris Fussell. It was then moved to Portland and became under the management of "Friends of SP 4449" of which Chris was a member. There were plans to bring it back into full operating condition but then Brooklyn Roundhouse was being closed. The original acrage for the planned ORHF had to be scaled back forcing several pieces of equipment to be stored temporarily on an industrial track donated by the owner of the property. In early 2013 it was learned that the donated industrial track used was going to no longer be available and all the equipment on it would have to be moved out. In mid 2013 Dynamic Rail Preservation was formed with Chris as the president and ownership of 231 and 644 went to DynaRail, who then moved them to Ogden Utah to ensure their preservation. The intent of DynaRail, as it was with "Friends of SP 4449" is to bring both units back to full operating condition. They then would be available for special train and excusion train use. http://www.dynarail.org/ Date: 07/03/17 01:57 Re: Curious - Status of the Daylight painted F40 /SP 4449 Author: gobbl3gook From the Trainorders.com time machine
