Steam & Excursion > Southern Pacific 4449 - Oregon Odyssey

On the weekend of June 24th-25th, Southern Pacific 4449 pulled an excursion from Portland, OR to Bend, OR and return. Traversing the beautiful scenery of both the Columbia River Gorge and the Deschutes River Canyon. This is the first time i've chased the 4449, and only the second time I've seen her under steam. Throughout the weekend I marveled at the beauty of the Lima built behemoth, that with her red, orange, and black colors, and beautifully designed skirting, that this locomotive IS the perfect match between power and beauty, and the most beautiful streamlined locomotive ever built. Very impressive, thanks for sharing. The audio in the drone shots: was that captured from the drone, or an independent audio recording device later added in during the editing process?

Agree! I still prefer un-streamlined steam, but the GS4 Daylight is the most beautiful. Thank you for your video.

nice video and sound! FlyingFred, it took about five minutes for this to upload for me. I've run into this before with TO videos. I hit the start button, read the rest of the thread, sometimes check an email or two and come back to find the video loaded.

Good video. Great drone action.

Now I know why I sat for over two hours in 107 degrees with no shade at Shearer waiting. Was worth it tho!

First...thanks for sharing your excellent video! I especially liked the opening segment at Cape Horn as that is a spot I never felt
comfortable trying to get to the sunny side of the tracks. Perfect for a drone though! The "look down" at Crooked River is also outstanding.

Great video ... since I was riding in the Silver Splendor Dome car
(the first dome following the two full-length dome cars) ... I really
appreciate the "drone" perspective of the full train ... what a great
weekend for those on the train, as well as those documenting the train
from the chase perspective ... talk about a win---win!
