His Backyard....
Author: MEKoch

Saturday the Orrville Railroad Heritage Society of Ohio had their annual picnic in one member's backyard. Spectacular. 27 acres with a 3' narrow gauge railroad. Pictured is a Porter 0-4-0 loco, which was fireless. Owner explained that it was used at a gunpowder plant, where sparks were not allowed...... They would fill it with steam/water and it had enough pressure to work eight hours before recharging.

The owner has an interesting system: he keeps airpressure in the loco by towing an air compressor behind the loco. So we had rides on his train.

He also has four standard gauge cabooses. One is pictured behind the Porter. Also you see the watchman's tower.

Nice toys.

Question. If he were to get a 3ft gauge coal burning live steam engine, but is not open to public except by invitation (like your group), does that engine fall under any regulatory body?

Usually yes. The boiler is not usually considered a "hobby boiler" as usually defined by grate area.
