Steam & Excursion > B&M #3713 Summer 2017 Newsletter ReleasedDate: 09/14/17 20:00 B&M #3713 Summer 2017 Newsletter Released Author: Robertjohndavis The Summer 2017 Newsletter is out!
The restoration of B&M #3713 continues at the Steamtown National Historic Site and the Summer 2017 newsletter has all of the updates. Appliance work is progressing, local trade school students are recrafting the headlight and requests for bids have gone out for major components. Of course, there is still fundraising to be done. Don’t miss the details of our new Signers’ Fund with unique gifts for our supporters. Now is a great time to get on board as we bring “America’s Locomotive” back to the rails! Perhaps some day years from now a dad will show his son the headlight and say, "I built that". Not intending to troll, but didn't they do a similar thing with 1361?
Has the bulk of the boiler work been completed? Date: 09/15/17 06:45 Re: B&M #3713 Summer 2017 Newsletter Released Author: Robertjohndavis Hi,
The remaining boiler work will be tackled in the future. Right now, the restoration team has prioritized the assemblies and components outlined in the newsletter. - Rob Date: 09/17/17 10:45 Re: B&M #3713 Summer 2017 Newsletter Released Author: UPTRAIN Nice to see the project is moving along. I'll for sure be headed to Steamtown for the first time when it's hot and running.

Since 3713 is a plain bearing engine, i.e. not roller bearings, I wonder it they will be up-grading her driving boxes & crown bearings to pressure feed oil, instead of the old grease cakes. The TVRM had significant problems with #630 running hot main axle bearings when operating on the NS main line, until both #630 and 4501 were up-graded to pressure feed oil with babbitted crown bearings. Hope the 3713 folks do the same, which will reduce a LOT maintenance issues. |
