Please keep in mind that the C&O 614 did not pull the Chessie Steam Special, the former Reading 2101 pulled the Chessie Steam Special. The 614 pulled the Chessie Steam Safety Express in 1980 & 1981.

Ed, you are correct but the photos with the "Chessie Steam Special" on the drum head were taken either in 1977, the 1st year of operation or in 1978 the 2nd year and a different observation car was used. When the C&O 614 pulled the Steam Safety Express, the rear observation car was the former B&O 3302 "Edward G. Hooper." Here are two photos of this car, the first one as the rear car in 1980 & 81, and as it is today rusting away at the B&O Railroad Museum in Baltimore.
Both this special B&O passenger car which has a ton of history with it, including the fact that it is the last of the paired-narrow window heavy-weight observation cars that ran on the old B&O "Royal Blue" trains, and the former Reading 2101, which was American Freedom Train #1 then later the engine that pulled the Chessie Steam Special, they both are in the front yard of the B&O Railroad Museum in Baltimore rusting away, a real crime.

No post from ClubCar is complete without a jab at the B&O Museum; we get it - they don't operate up to your standards.

It's not just John. I'm pretty sure they operate on lower standards than most other places that call themselves a "museum". They've got some equipment in there rusting away that is pretty high up on the historically significant list, but they do absolutely nothing to even try to stop the disintegration. Case in point is the train ride you can take that runs the first mile out of the museum. There is foul language spray painted all over the ruins that line the route and the kids and adults alike get to see it on the train ride. The museum doesn't care to even try to clean that up.

I thought I recognized photo #4. I took it on 25 Apr 1981 on a round trip of the Chessie Safety Express from East St Louis to Flora Illinois. The image was lifted from the www.themetrains.com website under the section on the Chessie Safety Express.

Shouldn't Burlington John get credited for the photo? Or SOMEONE, if not the OP?

Maybe Club Car just forgot to credit the photo. At least he didn't claim it outright as his. At first I thought you were accusing the O.P., but then I remembered how to count to four...

I just sent a private message to Burlington John explaining that someone sent me this photo by email several years ago and the person who sent it did not even know who took the photo. Many photos once out on the internet get sent to others over and over again. Anyhow I took the time to thank Burlington John for the photo.
