Your kidding right? This is the newest of RBBB power cars that UP purchased along with two stock cars. Let me guess. It was some where between OMA and KC. Probably heading to MAC in KC for paint.

Yes west of Omaha. Why would I be kidding? I don't have all the knowledge you might have. Is the power car for Excursions only?

Dude, don't feel bad. I stared at this for about 10 minutes before I figured out what RBBB meant, let alone the Railfan Abbreviation Handbook Requirement for the rest of that informative reply...Hell, I thought it might be a dynamometer car, Haahahaaa...

Cheers, Dave

...and from someone else unfamiliar with UP, what's a Willie James?

It is a passenger car named after Willie James, a former cook in the Commissary department and along cooking on many business trips.

Steve, did you push your glasses up, snort, and then rearrange your UP rail-fan suspenders before making that snarky reply?

Bob is correct. Before it was the Willie James it was the Cabarton a staff car. It is the only Stainless Budd car in UP's fleet Built from a Pacific series sleeper.
Sorry about being snarky. It's just it's been talked about but no pictures on TO until now. Where exactly did you see it west of Omaha. I'm still guessing its on it way to KC to be painted at MAC.
As far as the question about what is it used for the UP now has four power cars for the Heritage car fleet. UPP 207 and 208 are converted boiler dorms that were used for steam heat before the fleet was converted in the mid to late eighties. The 209 is still a boiler dorm and used for the Steam fleet.
The third car was built maybe ten years ago from an RPO saved from MOW service. This is the car that has the hump on the roof on one end. Now there is a fourth car with the purchase of the EPA friendlier ex Ringling car.
The 963 also has head end power but I have never seen it used.

Alas, not a Budd car, but there is a second painted Stainless Steel car in the UPP fleet. UPP 150 Sunset, came from the SP merger.

Looks like a power car with 2 large Gensets inside!
Six wheel trucks, lots of air intakes on either end
with the darkened middle of the roof, twin exhausts
from the Gensets!

For those keeping track, this was RBBX 63013.

Built in 1962 by St. Louis Car as UP Baggage 5780; to UP MoW Commissary 904823 in November 1978; first retired December 1971, reinstated May 1972; held for special service; sold to Ringling Bros., to RBBX 63013; rebuilt to power car prior to February 2011; sold to UP at auction in March 2017; last circus trains were operated in May 2017; RBBX 63013 was moved to UP at Council Bluffs, Iowa; to UPP 2055

Various sources show that UP bought three RBBX cars at the auction in March 2017: RBBX 60006 (stock car, ex UP 6312), RBBX 63004 (stock car, ex UP 5764), and RBBX 63013 (power car, ex UP 5780).

I try to keep this page up to date, as well as the various pages for the groups of UP passenger cars. I have added the new UPP number.

Just to add, "Willie James" was built as a 10 Roomette, 6 Double Bedroom Pullman Sleeper for Union Pacific by Budd in 1949. The car was named "Pacific Domain" for it's entire career in Union Pacific inter-city revenue passenger train service on UP Domeliners, Streamliners and other regularly scheduled passenger trains. After the advent of Amtrak in May 1971, Pacific Domain was the only UPRR 10-6 retained by the Union Pacific for business use, as mentioned previously in this thread. The other surviving "Pacific" series cars were sold to Amtrak. Pacific Domain later bore new names for use in business train service.

To confirm, both the UPP 2055 and UPP 202 (Ringling car pictured and the Willie James with it) moved to Council Bluffs to Kansas City on the PCBKC3 24, waybilled to the KCS and Mid-America Car.
