Fantastic photos, as usual. However, the New Orleans Worlds Fair Daylight operated in 1984, NOT 1985.

I just learned it was 1984 not 1985

May I suggest that you go back up and edit your original posts, to reflect the correct year? Still spectacular photos!

Wow, you did good. The Chatsworth shot is timeless except for the fence.

The last pic looks as if it is westbound (south) with MS on the left and then Shastena.

sir -- Those are each incredibly beautiful photos!
You have an artist's eye -- and s stunning subject!
ALL of your photos are gorgeous!!

I am with "nycman" -- when are you going to publish
a book with many of your super and incredibly beautiful
photos in it? I would definitely buy a copy.

Thank you very, very much for taking these gorgeous
photos of "the most beautiful train in the world"!

(Thank you, Angus D. McDonald, and everyone who had
anything at all to do with creating that beautiful
train. I was very fortunate in that I actually got
to ride the "Coast Daylight" in the steam era, and
the train was pulled by a "California Sunset Red"
and "California Poppy Orange" 4-8-4, and was glorious
in red and orange from front to back, except for the
big black 2-10-2 helper we had over Cuesta.)

Fantastic images - thanks for posting!

How many of these passenger cars still exist? Is it even possible to put together a "full" daylight train set? I would imagine if it is possible, it would be a much much shorter train.

Second the "spectacular.". However, if people are too lazy to read, they only have themselves to blame when the correct date/year is posted later in the thread.

Haruo, don't worry about the exact dates, we want to see more of your shots regardless! Thank you for posting these.

For photo #5, I must have been standing pretty near you. It was a marvelous day, with McCloud 25 running from Dunsmuir to Mt. Shasta for good measure.

Perhaps BoilingMan can tell us the story of how they acquired the whole trainset. My admittedly faulty, aging memory seems to be that at least one of the cars was already at a scrap dealer. Someone can correct me on that.

I went back thru my time books but was on vacation. I remember the RFE called me at home and asked me to be a pilot from Dunsmuir to K. Falls. I went and was able to take my wife & girls back in the coach cars.

I think I was on duty about noon or so. The #25 was there and paced the 49 up thru the yard to the depot. The train was very late because of a bearing on the engine. They was talk about taking a bearing off the park display engine in Dunsmuir but that never happened. Well, the hoghead on the #25 Peltz(retired) was asked if he wanted to ride the 49 to Black Butte he jumped ship and left the #25 in charge of its regular engineer and we finally left. When we were up almost at Sawmill, you could see down to the east switch at Small and see the #25 smoking up towards Cantera, behind us.

When we got to Black Butte and Peltz got off, we went on towards K Falls. By now it was getting dark. When we got to Hotlum, the RFE had us stop so he could put 3 road engines on our point that were on a west train at Andesite. We were getting very low on fuel oil because of all the delay west of Dunsmuir. We kept the "helper" to Grass Lake and cut them off. Off we went towards K. Falls. Leaving Dorris we were told to stop at Worden to let passengers off in order for them to catch ATK that was in the siding, back south. I think it was RDB or RIM that was trying to help everybody out. We were supposed to be in K Falls hours before Atks regular time. Well, off we went on the final leg. When we stopped to head in on 25, the fire went out. Mac had enough steam to pull us up to the depot where the fuel truck was waiting.

I gathered up the wife and kids, who were not happy campers. Been on the train since the afternoon and it was passed midnight. "No diner" as my wife thought. I got gas in my old Klamath out of town car and headed back to Mt. Shasta. Suppose that could have been one of the many reasons she advertised my job a few years later? She had grown to hate the railroad as a lot of other woman had.

Yep, #8 is SP Westbound just outside of Cougar (where the tracks have a narrow bridge over the County Road). Not the same day but great to see the photos.

Thanks for the interesting stories.
