This Amazing Steam Scene Came Back To Life 60 Years Later!
Author: LoggerHogger

Miracles do still happen. The "Slim Princess Reunion" that took place in late September proved that to all of us who were in attendance.

Once again the small narrow gauge railyard of Laws, California had a 4-6-0 moving about on it's own steam power just as had been occurring here decades earlier. In this photo from the late 1940's we see Southern Pacific #8 moving past the Laws depot on a fine summer day.

Even though #8 resides today on display at Sparks, Nevada, most all of the scene that we see here still exists at Laws today and they looked fantastic with #18 moving about.

Miracles do still happen.

That is quite a switch complex for being in the middle of nowhere.

You comment reminded me of the famous description for the Carson & Colorado RR;

"The railroad that started nowhere, ended nowhere, and stopped all night to think it over."

Do they still have that cool 3-way switch at Laws? I don't recall it from our visit there a couple years ago. It is a special place for sure.

Rob Field sure has a great eye for images.

I agree he does for his shots. However this was not shot by Mr. Field. It was a view taken in 1940 and simply in his collection. He did not record who the photographer was.
