Steam & Excursion > CPR #1201 - Nov. 1985 Excursion to CPR's 100th AnniversaryDate: 02/14/18 08:03 CPR #1201 - Nov. 1985 Excursion to CPR's 100th Anniversary Author: spdaylight As a follow up to the couple of posts earlier this week on #1201, Canadian Pacific Railway celebrated the 100th anniversary of the Driving of the Last Spike at Craigellachie, west of Revelstoke BC, in Nov. 1985 by bringing #1201 out from Ottawa to be the highlight of the ceremony. No diesels assisting on this trip which made for some spectacular steam scenes in the cold winter weather.
I chased the train from Revelstoke to the ceremony and return. These clips are on the return trip to Revelstoke with all the VIP's. On the last scene, the echo of 1201's whistle echoes for over 10 seconds off the mountains. The yellow truss-rodded coach on the tail end was over a hundred years old and was the business car owned by the contractors who built the railway a century earlier!
