Steam & Excursion > Trains Still Skirt This Lake, But Not Like This One Anymore!Date: 04/16/18 03:41 Trains Still Skirt This Lake, But Not Like This One Anymore! Author: LoggerHogger Certain locations where trains are seen to travel are instantly recognizable no matter which era is represented. This is one such spot.
When the Southern Pacific pushed north past Klamath Falls, Oregon it quickly encountered the largest natural lake in the state of Oregon. Klamath Lake spreads out for many square miles and is bordered to the East by steep cliffs. SP had just enough room to carve a shelf along the lake for the railroad right-of-way. In July 1949 SP #4285 and her long string of 40-foot freight cars made their way along the east edge of Klamath Lake on a fine sunny summer afternoon. Today this same scene see mostly large Union Pacific freight trains with modern diesel power along with the Occassional BNSF train headed for the Oregon Trunk or a fast running Amtrak passenger train also pulled by modern diesel power. Klamath Lake has watched it all over the years. Martin Edited 4 time(s). Last edit at 04/16/18 03:50 by LoggerHogger. The Cab Forwards I always thought were one of the coolest looking steam locomotives.
