Steam & Excursion > N&W 611 down for the count?

After the N&W 620 reveal this weekend at Spencer, I've heard some rumblings from credible sources that VMT will no longer be supporting N&W 611 excursion operations. With the recent Amtrak edict, it's not surprising. I'm also told that work on the engine isn't complete and that key staff will be leaving or have left the organization.

Has anyone heard anything more on this?

What is VMT? Glad N&W 611 has run so many years. Wish I'd cross paths with her more during her excursion years. Impressive steam locomotive. Thanks to all those who have contributed to her operation.

Since VMT is doing a bus trip Thursday to see the ongoing work, I doubt it is down for the count.

Well....I guess you won’t have to listen to me complaining about the circus train it has been pulling....rather than the traditional solid maroon N&W consist.

Can you explain for those of us that weren't at Spencer this past weekend, what you meant by the N&W 620 reveal? I know the 620 is an N&W GP9 that has been at Spencer for some time.

N&W 620 was repainted into the black paint scheme similar to what N&W 522 has.

Considering it was just refurbed like 3 years ago I am surprised they're doing so much work this year.

Yes CO2707.......I guess you are right. The first time I saw 611 on the Shaffer’s crossing roundhouse turntable, June 2nd, 1959, the N&W only HAD maroon cars.

What are you talking about, Norfolk and Southern has a black and white livery.

It sounds like everyone is having an intelligent conversation but you.

I'm told that the bus trip to NCTM is to raise money to return 611 home.

Parts are reportedly missing from the shop as well.
