Steam & Excursion > A visit to the UP Steam shopDate: 05/22/18 18:24 A visit to the UP Steam shop Author: Bob3985 Last Friday our Sherman Hill Model Railroad Club arranged for Steam shop tours for our vendors at our train show venue.
Here are a few from that visit. 1. Here are the vendors standing amongst the machinery in the main shop. 2. Three of the drivers had been returned from Strasburg with more coming this week. 3. This is a pair of crossheads and a crosshead guide. Bob Krieger Cheyenne, WY Date: 05/22/18 18:28 Re: A visit to the UP Steam shop Author: Bob3985 1. Here we see one of the steam crew, Bruce I believe, running the cylinder truing machine that we bought way back in the NS auction at Birmingham, AL.
2. Here is a shot of the Young valve gear on the 5511 (2-10-2). Bob Krieger Cheyenne, WY Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 05/23/18 14:23 by Bob3985. Date: 05/22/18 19:02 Re: A visit to the UP Steam shop Author: DKay Thanks for the photos Bob.Looks like good progress.
Regards,DK Date: 05/22/18 19:14 Re: A visit to the UP Steam shop Author: CPR_4000 Does it look like there are circular burnish marks on the driver tires, or are they reflecting the shop lights?
Date: 05/22/18 19:49 Re: A visit to the UP Steam shop Author: Frisco1522 The marks on the tires are from the circular fixture used for the "ring of fire" that heats up the tire and makes it expand and then its put on the wheel center and when it cools, it's on tight. Common procedure for installing tires.
