Steam & Excursion > Polson Lumber Co #2 – OCSR CharterDate: 05/24/18 23:10 Polson Lumber Co #2 – OCSR Charter Author: DelMonteX As you may know, this past weekend (5/19) Martin Hansen organized a photographer’s Photo Charter on the Oregon Coast Scenic Railroad, featuring the Polson Lumber Co #2 pulling a log train. We also had the McCloud #25 on a mixed train, with most of the photographers riding a passenger car on the end of the train.
The Charter included areas that the OCSR doesn’t normally run. We went north to just past Mohler and south of Garibaldi to a little north of Tillamook. For the morning’s north bound run, I chose to chase the train and photograph mostly with my aerial photography platform (i.e DJI Mavic Pro Drone). Martin and all of the people involved with OCSR deserve a hearty Thanks! 1) The PLC #2 at Smith Lake. 2) The McCloud a few minutes later after backing up to pick up the photographers. 3) The McCloud at Rockaway Beach. Behind me is the Pacific Ocean, or rather behind the drone. 5) The PLC #2 running along the Nehalem River just north of Rockaway Beach. 6) The PLC #2 running along a tidal basin off the Nehalem river. This was a shot that ended up being a “Drone Only” shot, with the exception of one intrepid photographer who wasn’t riding the train either. As the photographers were climbing down off the passenger car and down the embankment, the first two ended up literally stuck in the mud and had to be extricated. That put the kibosh on the shot. But the plans changed so the two trains continued on with the PLC #2 trailing.
8) Here we are at the Nehalem River bridge with the McCloud arriving to unload the photographers and pull up out of the way of the PLC 9) And the star makes it’s crossing. 11) This is from the afternoon, crossing the Hathaway Slough north of Tillamook 12) Just north of Garibaldi is this location featuring the “Three Graces and Crab Rock”. The train was headed north to Smith Lake for the night photo shoot. 14) PLC #2 at Smith Lake again as the sun makes a anemic presence. 15) And the going away shot. More to come from the ground. Steve Carter Gig Harbor, WA My Photography Date: 05/25/18 02:34 Re: Polson Lumber Co #2 – OCSR Charter Author: Milepost_130 Very impressive! Thanks for sharing.

No, as a matter of fact, I didn't know about the photo charter AND I'm a member of the OCSR, although only recently, so perhaps the communication went out prior to me becoming a member. That being said, I would have really enjoyed being there. I'm planning a trip in mid-June, but could have moved it up to participate in this photo charter. All that being said, GREAT photography. Thanks for sharing. Date: 05/25/18 10:18 Re: Polson Lumber Co #2 – OCSR Charter Author: march_hare Thanks for posting these. I was wondering what the drone's eye view looked like while I was down on the ground.
