"Relief" Coming for Durango Fire
Author: lynnpowell

The 416 Fire north of Durango, which has shut down the Durango & Silverton RR, is about to get a dose of Mother Nature's fire suppression. Category 4 Hurricane Bud creamed northwest Mexico over the last two days. Bud is now a powerful "tropical storm" and is headed NNE bringing heavy rains with it. The National Weather Service has issued a warning to Arizona, western New Mexico, southeast Utah, and southwest Colorado to expect a "significant weather event" in the next five days which will include up to 5-inches of rain and likely flash floods. Durango and the 416 Fire are in Bud's path. The D&S can expect flood damage of some kind.

According to today's Durango Herald, the storm, despite adding moisture, could cause more problems with wind and lightning. A fire official said the fire would be out when Mother Nature puts it out.
