With The War Looming There Was Time For One More Of These!
Author: LoggerHogger

1941 was a troubled time for much of the world as WW-2 had started in Europe 2 years earlier.  Buy July 1941 it was only a matter of months before the U.S. would be drawn into the global conflict.

On July 23 of that fateful year, railfans gathered on the Northwestern Pacific to enjoy one last excursion on that line before all such trips would be halted by the war.  Here we see NWP #23 and #109 re-positioning themselves at the NWP depot in Schellville, California during a railfan excursion on the scenic NWP.

The cloudy day sets the mood for this scene as the veritable "calm before the storm".

Nice find! Schellvile hasn't changed much since then.

It must have been a cool or rainy day in July. It looks like some of the folks are wearing coats.

The native grass looks pretty dark (i.e., green) for July.

The problem with the title is that no one really knew "the war was looming."

You need to read your history before making comments like this.
