Best of the Best, 489. Great Throttle, squarest valve gear on road, fired easy, held her water well, road like a dream. At least she did in the 1990's. Date: 08/03/18 11:53 Re: She's So Fine, My 489 Author: callum_out Nothing a decent diesel couldn't fix (nyuk-nyuk).

It's nice to know someone thinks the same on this. Very impressive to historical steam minds, like mine. That railroad had to really fight hard to run in the snowiest parts of the year. Colorado Midland also had serious snow adventures at Hagerman Pass, etc. Those snow plows make you realize how hard those railroaders worked; but it was easier to plow than shovel.
We lived in the Colorado Mountains for 43 years at a lower elevation but on a 2-3/4 mile private dirt road and is was another type of fight with much smaller vehicles. My choice was a 1976 Ford F-250 heaviest suspension, low range and a Warn winch, snatch blocks, serious tire chains, three gas tanks, etc. One winter we had 27 feet of snow. It was hard but for younger years it was fun. SuperChiefDon Date: 08/04/18 09:25 Re: She's So Fine, My 489 Author: Earlk daniel3197 Wrote:
