Steam & Excursion > Could have been 60 years agoDate: 09/18/18 06:17 Could have been 60 years ago Author: PRRFan Don't know if NKP had many overhead crossings in the 50's, but this view at Blue Island may fill that image. NKP 765 working it way to Chicago's LaSalle st.station, with the Joliet Rocket on Former Rock Island Main.
Big Berk is crossing over the IHB and CSX in this view. Just to the west' it also crossed the CN (GT) main. PRRFan Date: 09/18/18 06:51 Re: Could have been 60 years ago Author: andersonb109 Modern signals and tank cars give it away.

Date: 09/18/18 07:10 Re: Could have been 60 years ago Author: junctiontower They didn't "ditch" them, they are only used when needed, and they weren't needed for this relatively short trip. Rest assured they are sitting outside the shop at the FWRHS ready to go back into action should a long distance need arrive.

Date: 09/18/18 11:09 Re: Could have been 60 years ago Author: junctiontower I'm amazed nobody complains about the auxillary water tender too. That's certainly non-prototypical. Kelly Lynch, if you're out there, just curious why the Auxillary tender hasn't been lettered with anything, whether it be NKP or FWRHS or something else? Or is the idea to make it NOT stand out?

Well, the current common-carrier RRs sure are NOT going to erect water tanks ( every 100 Miles and at service terminals) and trackside watering columns for excursion operators’ convenience. UP RR excursions have used multiple auxiliary tenders in past outings. I don’t remember any belly-aching about their operations... Objections and sniveling, superfluous comments? Pipe-down, suck it up, get over it and enjoy the majesty of the steeds at full speed—- THAT’S the GLORY.... Thank you Kelly Lynch and Crew for your tireless efforts at keeping 765 ‘employed’, operational, and looking wonderful ... W. PS... ( “It ain’t protypical” is a term applied to toy trains, not current operating locos or real-life conditions...)
