This Steam Locomotive Was Still Used Evan After Diesels Arrived!
Author: LoggerHogger

Usually on any shortline with only one steam locomotive in use, when the first diesel arrived that meant the last use for that steam engine.  Fortunately, that was not the case on this small railroad.

Here we see the engine facility of Howard Terminal railroad in 1956.  Even though the first diesel for the line has arrived and has been put into service, they still find a need to fire up and run their Baldwin 2-6-2T #6.

#6 is former Sierra Ry #30 and was originally built as a 2-6-2 for service on the Sierra's Angels branch.  Once that branch line was abandoned she was soon sold to the Howard terminal for switching duty.  Since she did not need the water capacity from before for the short HT line, her tender was sold and replaced with the saddle tank we see here.

She would last under steam until the early 1960's when she was bought by a group of railfans to form the beginning of the Pacific Locomotive Association.

Neat shot.  Always found the Howard Terminal to be a fascinating operation.  Not well documented but so much interesting operation in such a small area.

Yet another E.K. Muller negative now missing from the Western Railway Museum Archives.  It's his negative number 6738 taken in early November 1956.  I posted a scan of it in this old thread back in 2015:

If these negatives have left the Museum and should not have, is there an opportunity for them to find their way back to the Museum?  B

Evan, always a pleasure to see "it's" used properly,  along with all of your mundo scans.  Why this site rejects good English just for the hell of it is beyond me.  It's is not a possessive but no one will learn that here.

Here is that #8 Diesel in service in 2018.  Amazing how little has been altered on it.

Why hasn't Martin stated how he got the stolen image?

The images I post are not stolen as far as I know.  The museum is aware of that.

As far as I know, the investigation is ongoing.  For reference, the Western Railway Museum Archives does sell surplus items including negatives through Ebay when another suitable archive or historical organization cannot be identified to receive them; the funds raised in this manner allow the archive to be self-sustaining and continue its preservation mission.  However, the only authorized Ebay seller for WRM Archives material is "baeraarchives," which has not sold any Muller negatives in the past and does not plan to do so in the foreseeable future.  Muller negatives previously in the archives collection that have since been sold by other Ebay sellers or through means other than Ebay were not sold legitamately.
