Chama Time: A Clear Morning Up on Big Horn Peak
Author: BoilingMan

Over a cold beer on Foster's porch Stevo_W and I got to thinking- I'll bet you could see a lot of RR from up on Big Horn Peak...
So well before sunrise we fired up the NecroSubie to get out ahead of The Friends Photo Freight.
SR

A Google Eye's view looking East from over Big Horn.  Antonito is in the upper left corner.

A.  We could clearly hear the train before we saw it, then spotted them crossing between Ferguson's and Gravity Grade (the climb up to Lava).
B&C.  Approaching the Whiplash Curves.
D.  Lower Whiplash
E.  and then 'rounding the top of The Whiplash
F,G,& H.  Now up on the Ridge, the RR stays in clear site as it heads for Big Horn.  In the 3rd location/photo H they blow at the Big Horn Yard Limit.
I.  Coming into Big Horn, crossing the East leg of the wye.

continued...

Thank you. Yes, it’s quite to view up there, and you can hear the train working most of the way up.
A bit of a hike, but not TOO difficult.

I drive a Canon 5D III and had the Canon 70-300 4-5.6L on.

From Google Earth and the CPA to the track, 1,435 ft. (qtr mile) and 420 ft. elevation climb. Not too bad!
