Oh no. Look at all those poor soles on the open platform. Happy no one was injured, or worse fell out and died. But I guess since this wasn't an Amtrak move, it was probably ok.  

Thanks for your SP&S 700 images on Montana Rail Link.  Awesome country-!  Glad you got to chase the steam special-memorable trip-!

The first two appear to be the horseshoe curve west of Helena (Austin I believe).  The third shot looks like it was taken between Elliston and Garrison (at least it looks similar to photos I have taken there, but there might be similar looking places elsewhere).  One of my life long regrets is that I was only able to go out for the eastbound run (and only two thirds of that).  As your images show, the weather and foliage were perfect.  I have never heard a louder steamer than 700 when it climbed eastbound up Mullan Pass - I can testify that it certainly exceeded the 125 dB ear pain threshold!

13) &14) are indeed West Austin, MT, westbound trip Saturday Oct 19, 2002.
15) Westbound along the Little Blackfoot River between Bradley and Garrison, MT Sat Oct 19, 2002.
16) Eastbound coming off the Fourth Sub at Desmet, MT (west of Missoula) Sat Oct 12, 2002.
17) As mentioned by co-z already, is eastbound arriving Logan, MT Sun Oct 13, 2002

18) This one had me stumped for a bit, but it is a flipped photo. This is Sunday morning Oct 20, 2002, arriving Paradise, MT off MRL's Tenth Sub. Photo is taken from the side of MT Hwy 200 looking across the Clark Fork River before they did a water stop and backed down MRL's Fourth Sub for a photo run-by. They were trying to recreate a Warren McGee photo from years ago that Warren had taken of an SP&S 700 class locomotive arriving Paradise after a rebuild in NP's Livingston's Shops. Seems to me that story is written up somewhere. Also, if you do a google street view from Hwy 200 looking across the river at this point, you can see the mirrored image of the rock scree on the hillside above the 700.

13 and 14 are the big horseshoe curve at Austin as 2 others indicated.  I am surprised you don't have a prior shot of the train coming toward you.  I shot video there and through the whole curve.  It is indeed west of Helena, and probably the most noteworthy location west of Helena.  Trains really work hard through here.

Picture 18 reversed.  Thank you Dave for the ID.  Thank you for IDing the arrival to Logan, you can tell it's an oil burner.  That shot from the other side is beautiful.
