That's nice. But for the serious photographer there will no doubt be far too many wandering around to get decent photos. It would be great if these fine locomotives could be seen in action on the line with a proper photo charter.

Just like any museum. We bitched because the place was only open to private group tours, and now there will be too many people wandering around. Somehow, I don't think so. The Railroad Museum of PA is open to the public in a popular tourist destination and people aren't packed in there cheek to jowl.

I thought they didn't allow photography, or has that policy changed?   I doubt if we'll see any public charters as long as G&W owns the Ohio Central.

Then howcome I've seen photography from friends who have visited the place, and not surreptitious snaps, but nice pictures.

I was on a tour in July 2018 and most of my group took photos - inside, outside and in the backshop.  There were no restrictions.  It is well worth the visit  When they say a tour it is just that, a guided controlled tour and the guide we had was very knowledgeable of every aspect of the facility and the locomotives, steam and diesel.  It is a functioning facility and I doubt very much people will be wondering around, but will be kept in groups just like we were.  Even in the group of 38 we had, photography without people in it was very easy.  Two hours and $20 well spent..      TomE

Congratulations to the AOS team. I know Jerry Joe is smiling as his greatest pleasure came from watching others enjoy what he had preserved. If you love steam it doesn't get any better than this. Cheap at twice the price.

Can't speak about "the serious photographer," but a capable photographer should be able to get good photos in this setting during public tours.

A typical policy at most museums, business, etc. is that photography for private use and enjoyment is allowed (except for sensitive areas) but COMMERCIAL photography is prohibited without prior consent and agreement.

Perhaps that is the case here.

Some of the very best historical photos here on TO have people in them.  If you missed builders photos you dont need fake ones.

I tried to answer their email and got a Daemon undeliverable.  I think John Corns used to moderate it.  Does anyone on here know how to contact them?  TIA.

I have been fortunate enough to visit the AOS facility twice and found no restrictions beyond common sense and safety considerations.

What is too often lost in some minds is the fact that this is not a public facility, rather the private collection and property being made available to the public with all the risks that entails. It is clear it was never built as a public park or museum anymore than once builds a major model railroad layout in your basement, attic or other part of the house.

Would it be nice to have excursions, and lots of other things? Yes but again we're being allowed access to someone's private property and there is no profit being made by providing that access. Be thankful that Jerry J was willing to share his collection with the general public.

They do now. At first, before they sorted out tour insurance, they asked people not to put their pictures on the internet because others would see them and just show up during the work week, expecting to be shown around. Last summer JBC asked us to share pictures judiciously and mention the organized tours. Now that they have a schedule, I’d bet they won’t mind.
