Steam & Excursion > A Remote Steam Facility With Several Modes Of Transportation!

Some shots taken of steam locomotives are as interesting for what's in the background of the locomotive as the engine itself.  This is one of those photos.

Taken in 1955 this photo captures White Pass & Yukon narrow gauge 2-8-2 #70 and her caboose at the railroad's engine facility at the railroad's northern terminus at Whitehorse in the Yukon Territory.  The line's 2-stall enginehouse is visible in the background.  The 1938-built Baldwin Mike looks to be in excellent condition and shows no sign of the 17 years of service that she has already given to the railroad.

To the left we see one of the company's stern wheelers in dry dock under repairs.  This is something you do not see in most steam railroad facilities.  Finally, to the right of the engine is an old 1954 Plymouth automobile.  This certainly rounds out the variety of transportation captured in the photo.

While the steam locomotive dominates the scene, there certainly is much more to study in the background.
