Slim Princess SP #18 on the D&S high line Take Three
Author: steamfan49

Okay, I think I've got the video loaded and ready to go this time.  Video on prior attempts was 4k and Todd informed me that he can't handle 4k, so I converted to lower resolution and we should be good to go.

The video is of Southern Pacific #18 chugging up the High Line on Durango and Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad.  In the snow.  It was big fun being there and I hope you enjoy viewing her huff and puff up the grade as much as I enjoyed videoing her.

You da man!! All is forgiven, great video, and Larry Gross assured me that you guys didn't have to
hike in (from Rockwood) to get these shots.

WOW. Simply amazing.

On a side note, I know she's staying into the summer, last I heard. Are they going to publish special runs? Hopefully!

How does that engine's performance compare to the D&S power?

Well, it isn't superheated and has one less drive axle, so my guess would be,,,,,,,,,not even close to one of their 2-8-2s.

Yah but it says "Southern Pacific" on the tender which adds at least 100 hp! Should be a bit more than RGS 20 which
will make a nice comparison when CRM gets it back and loans it to the D&S (hint-hint?)_

Thanks for sharing. That is absolutely spectacular. It's awesome that she's getting a great workout and getting to play in the snow. Snow isn't too common in the Owens Valley.

Just wonderful. Thank you for posting!

Imagining it 100 years ago climbing Sage Hen Summit in the snow, or Mt. Montgomery Pass.

Glad you liked it. I think there will be a number of special runs during their lease period.  I would check out the D&S website for more info.

GREAT video, and thanks for staying out in the cold to film it.

Question for Hotwater or anybody who knows: th puff-puff-puff, then a “shease” sound. A air pump?

That is an amazing video.   Awesome scenery and great to see this machine so well restored and running in that environment.   You can almost hear her saying "I think I can, I think I can".

That sound is the "new" air pump which cycles about half as much as the old pump, need to hang a big
cross compound on that thing and call it good!

Fantabulous!  And to think it used to sit alongside US395 in Independence for decades!  Amazing.  And it also makes me wish I'd have gone back there to actually see it operate!

Thanks Craig, and to all the folks offering congrats.  I'm happy that everybody seems to enjoy seeing her on the High Line.  I certainly had fun playing in the snow while watching a great steam locomotive do its thing.  And sharing with like-minded people makes it even better.
