Gotta love the UP
Author: Spikes

I am so pleased that UP preserves and runs steam locomotives for us, for many years, and that they decided to run 4014, and their decisions are logical and toward that lofty goal. I commend them. Sorry some on TO are critical, but they spout off and rant even if the crew landed all three engines on the moon this week. Rants are no good for anyone here.

I agree with "spikes."  In a few months thousands will get a chance to see Big Boy travel from Cheyenne to Ogden.
A couple of years ago that wouldn't have seemed possible.

Yep, I never dreamed that would happen in my life.  But then, T&P 610 and many other steam engines operating again was just as thrilling.

Yeah. . . .

If they get as many people out to see the 4014 actually steaming as they did to see it towed dead from Southern California, this will be a resounding PR success for UP. . .

What other Class 1 hosts it's own steam program?

While I live in the midwest and don't get to see UP steam in person without extensive travel, it is unbelievably awesome they continue to foster this program.

To resurrect a Big Boy?? A dream come true for many of us. I hope it gets around their system in the years ahead.

Just my opinion but, why does everyone ALWAYS overlook the BN/BNSF, and how accommodating they have been to the various groups behind SP 4449, SP&S 700, AT&SF 3751, Milwaukee 261, and Frisco 1522? OK, so they don't have a "Company Owned Steam Program", but they sure have gotten LOTS of free publicity from those various steam locomotive operations, over the last some 25 years.

Hot Water, you've made some good points re: BNSF's  friendliness toward steam movements on their RR. --Kelly

Good point "hotwater."  The 261 and 4449 have definitely benefited from the generosity
of the BNSF over the years.  Thanks for the reminder.

And there was good reason for those to be upset in the past. I am glad that they got this done though. Hopefully it goes well

That brings up a question HotWater: are we going to see some 4449 trips this year and what’s the status of SP&S 700?

This question is not based in reality.  There has been plenty of coverage on TO and in other media of steam excursions with the locomotives you listed on BNSF.

I live nowhere near any BNSF lines, yet I've been on more excursions on BNSF than any other railroad.

Obviously, everyone DOES NOT always overlook the BNSF.

So odd that someone would post a negative post to complain about people posting negative posts.

Welcome to Train Orders. Where logic does not apply.

Out of service undergoing the FRA mandated 15 year inspection and re-certification.

Neither does truth on some situations!
