Sri Lanka Steam 2
Author: andersonb109

Three more from my January, 2018 trip to the former Ceylon. This Far Rail tour utilized two locomotives....Class B1d 4-6-0 No. 340 built in 1945. And Class B2b 4-6-0TT  No. 213 built in 1922. The track is 5' 6" broad gauge.  We covered the entire line up to the tea plantations from Colombo to Demodera. First is No 213 near Bandarawela.. The brilliant green in the photo was not enhanced in any way.  Second: The locomotives double headed passing a Buddhist shrine near Nanu-Oya. Last: Double headed crossing the bridge at Talawakele. The tour is being repeated in January of next year including a day on the line wiped out by the tsunami in 2004.

One advantage of photo charters is the organizer normally knows where the best locations are. In this case, many thanks to Bernd Siler of FarRail for this sucessful tour. All I had to do was walk to the road bridge across the river and press the shutter.
