Steam & Excursion > A gallery of UP3985.Date: 04/14/19 06:46 A gallery of UP3985. Author: tolland It has become apparent that 3985 has given up valuable parts to make 4014 operable. I will always be a fan of UP3985...

I really don't understand what some folks here consider "ugly" and "beautiful" steam engines, but I do know that is one big beauty! Greaty job, guys! Date: 04/14/19 10:17 Re: A gallery of UP3985. Thanks tolland, for posting these. I have my share of memories with the world's biggest operating steam locomotive between 2008 and 2010 when I was able to see her in person, including when she pulled the Circus Train. Judging by the fence in the foreground, I'd say that is departing North Platte, NE. westbound on the last day of returning from the Super Bowl event in Houston, TX. Don't remember the year, but I sure as hell remember how cold and snowy it was from Kansas City, to Mareysville, to North Platte. It was well below zero degrees F the night before that photo was taken, and even the steam lines to the steam operated cylinder cocks froze up! Date: 04/14/19 11:40 Re: A gallery of UP3985. Thanks for sharing the > images. I brought up the question of 3985 not participating in 150th Anniversary of the founding of the Union Pacific Railroad in 2012. To me, that's the bigger shame, a chance for a last hurrah had the manager's intent been more transparent. He missed his chance of being a real hero. Date: 04/14/19 12:45 Re: A gallery of UP3985. Author: wpjones Jack, wasn't that where the engine was froze down and where Reed took the photo that ended up on the playing cards.
